Visit Loudoun Marks 30 Years of Tourism Leadership with Record-Breaking Growth
4/29/2025
LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Nearly 300 people gathered for Visit Loudoun’s annual meeting on Friday, April 25, 2025, where the agency not only marked its 30th anniversary but shared some 2024 results and accomplishments that elevated Loudoun County’s reputation as a premier travel destination on the national and international stage.
"Tourism is a key economic driver for Loudoun, but also for the entire Commonwealth of Virginia,” Visit Loudoun President and CEO Beth Erickson said. “Our success is not only a result of the hard work and creativity of the Visit Loudoun team, but also the commitment of our tourism partners and the entire community. This could not be achieved without a community that recognizes tourism’s profound economic impact on a destination."
At the annual meeting, which took place at Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, Visit Loudoun showcased record-breaking hotel occupancy rates that outpaced neighboring destinations, expanded its reach across social and digital platforms, and secured significant media coverage.
In 2024, Loudoun County led the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. areas in hotel occupancy rates. Loudoun’s average occupancy hit an impressive 71.6 percent, surpassing Northern Virginia’s average of 67.6 percent and D.C.’s average of 67.8 percent, according to STR data — demonstrating strong demand for the destination’s accommodations, attractions, and events.
Visit Loudoun expanded its digital marketing footprint last year, which resulted in an extraordinary 86.7 percent increase in reach, a 330.2 percent increase in link clicks, and a 38.8 percent increase in profile visits through enhanced social media advertising, digital campaigns, and partnerships with influencers, according to data from Meta. The organization’s efforts also propelled Loudoun into the spotlight, with features in major national outlets including Essence, Forbes, Travel + Leisure, and Condé Nast Traveler, which reached more than 50 million people worldwide.
Additionally, Visit Loudoun drove significant economic impact for the region, generating $53 million in direct economic impact from the meetings and sports tourism sectors alone, according to data gathered through Destination International’s Event Impact Calculator.
