Expo 2017 Awards: Best Presentation
Israel Pavilion
Israel Pavilion
As visitors entered the Israel Pavilion, they stepped into a modestly sized atrium whose mirrored walls and lighting effects fashioned an illusion of an infinity room. For the next four minutes, while a trio of giant monitors displayed a bird's-eye view of the country's landscape, a narrator and text on the screens detailed Israel's current and future energy solutions. Hundreds of synchronized LED orbs hanging from the ceiling cycled through hues that ranged from the colors of champagne and roses to emeralds and sapphires, illuminating the room and representing Israel's vitality with regard to energy production.
Moving into the main performance space, visitors settled into their seats around a box-like stage enclosed by translucent fabric screens. When the lights dimmed, a nearly 5-foot-diameter LED video sphere descended from the ceiling toward a dancer clad in a gossamer gown. When the Middle Eastern background music commenced, the performer raised a solar panel and seemed to etch a depiction of it on the screens around her – an illusion created by projectors above the stage that cast light and imagery on the nearly sheer fabric cube. Later, her body a cyclone in human form, the dancer flourished a scarf as if painting the air while the screens burst with projections of ribbon-like streamers conceptualizing the potential of wind power.
Within moments, those images morphed into stylized sea waves followed by a series of chemical and mathematical formulas communicating Israel's creativity in the field of science. The presentation culminated when the dancer emerged from the shrouded stage and exhorted the audience to generate its own brand of energy via a round of applause.

Honorable Mention
Switzerland Pavilion
Switzerland Pavilion
Designed by Atelier Oï SA and fabricated by Expomobilia AG, the Switzerland Pavilion hosted a unique presentation inside an intimate area designed to resemble a Swiss chalet. Dubbed the Solar Power House, the space came alive as flatscreen monitors set into the window wells of the stylized room played a video on the potential of solar power, creating the immersive effect that the chalet itself was right in the middle of the educational action.
